EDWARD ROCHESTER
EDWARD ROCHESTER
personality
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Race: Human Class: Fighter - Battle MasterBackground: Noble Soldier, Sailor, Pirate Origin: WaterdeepEdward is ambitious, capricious, stubborn and resilient, possessing a sort of brilliance (to some), that can come off as invasive. Obstinate and at times, lacking restraint, he does not have the patience to suffer other's incompetence and has a nature to correct wrongs, direct and all at once - despite knowing tact and grace would better serve everyone involved.Up front and impersonally, he may behave in a polished, well-mannered and considerate form, because inborn nobility demands it - or perhaps he genuinely does give a shit.He doubts it.Preferring to observe and make rather harsh judgements from a distance, he is not fond of small talk and tends to lack social grace, despite his charms. He is bound by ethics, morals and principles, but primarily those he sets for himself - despite, at times, appearing to conform to society or that of others within his community. In his youth, he was notoriously hot headed, brash and arrogant, compromising only if it served an end goal - very often his own, and so long as it was a compromise he deemed logical. He often was and remains to be saved by a natural charm and gregariousness that has not been lost.He is very logical and detached, uneasily navigating anything that involves the finer touch; he does not trust emotions offered freely, or other’s intentions outright, and tends to come across as gruff and highly skeptical.Prone to challenging assumptions with a quick analytical mind, it has served him well in the air and on the sea.He loves to be of use so long as he can employ his vision and only for as long as it appeals to him. He will bend the rules if they are not rational to him, choosing to take calculated risks as he pleases.

EDWARD ROCHESTER
backstory
1462 DR – SUMMERTIDE, 11TH DAY
Born to a noble family, Edward Rochester is one of three brothers who hail from a long lineage of Knights in service to the City of Waterdeep.Edward experienced a rewarding yet troubled childhood, despite the security of his family’s prestige and status. He was thoroughly educated and well trained in the familial tradition of serving the City Guard. As he matured, however, he developed a rather reckless nature.Edward appeared to often take certain liberties in his adolescence, and seemed to show little appreciation for the skills he had acquired, as well as the avenues available to him in his inherited position. His apparent recklessness gained him a few notable enemies. In 1476 DR, he was accused of robbery but was bailed out by his father.Despite these obstacles he seemingly would create for himself, he knew how to apply himself when he needed to. For this reason, he worked his way into the service of the Griffon Cavalry at the age of 18, in the year 1480 DR.
1480 DR – JOINS THE GRIFFON CAVALRY
Through the Griffon Cavalry, Edward came under the stewardship of Captain Stegg and in this exchange, Edward found an experienced mentor. This was the turning of events for Edward, as he began to seriously apply himself and abandon his reckless behaviour – as much as he was able to, anyways.
1486 DR – ATTACKS A NOBLE; TRIAL BY WATER
Six years into his service, in the year 1486 DR, Edward was accused of attacking a noble for which he was Tried by Water. Captain Stegg testified on behalf of Edward’s character, but due to the nature and severity of the case upon which a body was found, Edward was stripped of his position in the Griffon Cavalry and pushed outside of the noble society of Waterdeep.
1487 DR – ENLISTS AS A PRIVATEER
As Edward’s reputation buckled beneath the accusations, he struggled to find a position worthy of his skill. Through the help of Captain Stegg and the man’s networks, Edward settled himself on the fringes of society as a privateer and in close liaison with the City Navy.Edward spent several years in service to the City of Waterdeep as a privateer, and became more familiar with the world outside of nobility, beyond Waterdeep. He sailed all over, gaining insight and experience along the way.
1487 DR – ENLISTS AS A PRIVATEER
In 1489 DR, Edward received an assignment to provide support to a City Navy vessel out of Waterdeep; they were on the hunt for pirates. In the engagement, the City Navy did not provide ample support and left Edward and his crew vulnerable to a large numbers of pirates.Thoroughly done with the whims of Waterdeep , Edward proposed to the pirate Captain an offer; the exchange of his crew’s freedom for information of the City Navy, including the City Navy vessel that had abandoned them, as a prize – if they’d have him.The pirate Captain was amused by the gesture; she freed some of his crew and let Edward work as a mere deckhand until his information and resourcefulness proved credible. In the year 1490, Edward spotted the same City Navy vessel that had abandoned him and his crew a year prior - and took her a’prize. He was appointed to the vessel and sailed with the pirates as Captain Rochester.
1492 DR – WELCOME TO THE OUTLANDS
Waves with white teeth that threatened to swallow her whole. The monstrous howls of waterspouts, roaring like a choir behind an orchestral sea of the foulest tempest. Wind ripping at her sails. They’d been pursuing a pirate vessel off the Sword Coast deep into the Trackless Sea for three days. Tacking at all the right moments to gain the advantage.Slowly, surely.
Unrelenting.Grown so close that when the storm came upon them, Captain Rochester did not yield – did not anticipate how terrible of a storm it would prove to be. Like drunken addled clips in his warped memory - men going overboard, the foremast with them, the cold grasp of the sea and slamming against the deck. All at once.
Until this moment…The deck.Edward felt the sturdiness of thick wood against him, swaying, holding him with the sea beneath. He heard the sounds of water lapping about, stirring him to wake.He opened his eyes, skull splitting, ears ringing…
